No units yet, but this is the outline for an additional faction...and a way to use all those T34's and Panthers you have lying around
The OutlandsTo the north of old Corline, near the western fringe of the Unity Domains likes a region known to most of Cyberia as the Outlands.
Over time the area has been claimed by various factions, but with the rise of armed hostilities in recent years, the Council declared Resolution 935, pronouncing the Outlands a non-militarized zone to preserve the various self-governing cities and tribal groups that call it home.
However, recent geological survey teams have uncovered rich deposits of Theozine gas and energy crystal veins, causing a marked interest, as well as subtle military incursions.
The inhabitants of the Outlands have reacted in various ways. Some of the more militant tribes have resorted to guerilla warfare, while others have banded together for mutual protection.
The outlands were long the refuge of those who sought a way of life less burdened by the demands of nation states or corporate overlords. While cities and political factions inevitably developed, they maintained a sense of individualism and independence that is fiercely guarded.
OCAF
In the face of hostile forces and the realization that invasion and possible annexation is inevitable, the main city states convened to form a cohesive military force, with which to battle invasion, as well as perform needed tasks to ensure the long term stability of the Outlands.
The result was OCAF, the Outland Coalition Armed Forces. The establishment of a dedicated Outland military was met with varied emotions: Many felt that only the largest cities and groups had been given a voice in the matter.
The Outlands lack access to high technology but have a reasonable industrial base, which has caused them to focus on simple and rugged designs that can be produced quickly and at low cost.
Manpower was initially covered by volunteers, numbers swelling after the city of Draz was devastated by Unity artillery, however the Outlanders have found this to be insufficient. Many city states have imposed a form of conscription service in order to swell the ranks, as well as forced requisitioning of farm lands, food and other supplies.
Many of the tribes worry that once the threat of war no longer loom, the OCAF will become a force of oppression and imperialism. The most militant have started stockpiling weapons for use in the future.
The council:
With the militarization of the Outlands, the Council is debating how to proceed. At the present time, the region is still under military interdiction, however the Council lacks the manpower to enforce this, and has limited itself to act as a stabilizing force in the region, trying to prevent humanitarian disasters, and prevent terror strikes. However, observers cannot fail to notice that Council efforts have been largely focused on the gas mines, under the guise of securing the resources for the good of Cyberia.
Miniatures advice:
OCAF uses simple, rugged technology that can be manufactored at a reasonably low knowledge base. Suitable miniatures can be found in the vast variety of WW2 figures on the market. Infantry of different nationalities can be used to show units from different city states. As many OCAF battle groups will consist of mixed forces, feel free to mix and match figures.
Uniform colours will be simple and somewhat plain: Browns, Greys and Greens being typical. Camouflage is used sparingly and mostly by elite units. Vehicles tend to be matched to the uniform of the troops they are supporting.
